Headache Therapy Port St. Lucie, FL

Headaches can have a range of causes, but if you experience frequent headaches that have not been diagnosed otherwise, they could be related to a bite problem. TMJ related headaches can occur any time of the day but may be more noticeable in the morning. They may also be accompanied by jaw tension or pain in the neck area.

TMJ disorders can cause muscle tension in the jaw area, often related to teeth grinding or jaw clenching. This can radiate to the muscles supporting the head and along the back of the neck, leading to daily discomfort. The key to a successful treatment for TMJ related headaches is to identify the underlying cause, not just treat the symptoms.

Dr. Aaron Schamback and the associates of Great Smile Dental offer a comprehensive, team-oriented approach to treating the symptoms of a TMJ disorder and can work with you on an individual basis to meet your needs.

Treating TMJ Headaches

The first step towards improving your oral health and addressing painful symptoms is to thoroughly evaluate all aspects of your smile. We may use advanced 3-D imaging to analyze the structure of your jaw, looking for the signs of imbalance and dysfunction in your bite. A personalized treatment plan will be created for you that will be designed to restore normal jaw position and a comfortable bite to reduce muscle tension and pain.

We may use a range of restorative treatments, depending on your specific needs and the condition of your dental health. Options can include:

  • Mouthguards/splint therapy
  • Tooth bonding, dental crowns
  • Orthodontics

In complex cases where there is a jaw structure issue, we may recommend oral surgery to correct the problem or address damage to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).

The goal of treatment is to allow the teeth to make proper contact and the jaw to rest in a natural position, thus preventing teeth grinding and/or muscle tension. Our comprehensive approach will result in a lasting outcome and improved dental health. Proper treatment will also improve your quality of life, relieving discomfort.
